Media City Link Road opens

A brand new road to improve access to MediaCityUK and The Quays has opened, marking the first stage of a package of transport improvements to the area ahead of MediaCityUK opening in 2011.

The new Broadway extension road will link up the Centenary Way roundabout and Coronet Way with the existing Broadway Road, offering a new access route to MediaCityUK and The Quays from the Eccles side of the city and junction 2 of the M602.

Open swimming available

If you ever fancied taking a dip in the Quays, now is the time to do something about it, as a new company is offering weekly managed open water swim sessions at Dock 9, Salford Quays.

It's run by Uswim, formed by open water swim enthusiast and professional swimming coach David Quartermain.

Promenade work starts

A new £3.6 million public promenade is to extend the Trafford quayside in front of Imperial War Museum North to create a high quality 4,700m sq space, linked to Media City via the new bridge, currently under construction.

The new area has been made possible thanks to investment from the NWDA.

Stadium plans dropped

Plans to turn a disused warehouse on Trafford Wharf Road in to a huge live music venue have been withdrawn after objections from 20 people, and a leaflet drop from a local resident.

The plans, made by Manchester club Sankeys, would have employed hundreds of local people and been open around the clock.
